“Awww Honey, You Really Shouldn’t Have!” A Reflection on the Black Friday Shopping Fiascos

November 29, 2017 by Alexander Gee

Check this out:

“By Barbara Goldberg

NEW YORK | Sat Nov 26, 2011 4:41am EST

(Reuters) – Black Friday turned into a black mark against American shoppers as riotous crowds brawled over video games, waffle irons and towels, drawing international condemnation and even raising questions about the state of humanity.”

Seriously?!

SMH! (For those not familiar with Twitter and Facebook shorthand jargon, smh means “Shaking my head.”)

I just watched a YouTube video of people shoving and pulling each other over $1.88 towels. I read how a woman pepper sprayed unsuspecting midnight shoppers just so she could be the first to grab the newest XBox game. New York deal seekers, upset that that Hollister wasn’t opening for late-night shopping, broke in to the store and took what they wanted. The list continues with a grandfather being shoved to the ground at a Walmart right in front of his grandson, and people stepping on each other as they fought over $2 waffle irons.

One Step Backwards and Two Steps Forwards

November 29, 2017 by Alexander Gee

I wrote this to elaborate on a recent Life Lessons With Dr. Gee Facebook post:

What unresolved issue…what untamed thought…what undisciplined habit..what unhealthy relationship…is stealing your peace and impeding your success? You cannot move forward without 1st addressing what is dragging you down. #Geeisms

So many of us assume that there is no rhyme-or-reason to success…or failure, for that matter. This is precisely why so many put far too little energy into striving for success: they either feel success has eluded them, or, they assume that it is all a matter of chance and no amount of planning and preparing will help success to come.

Both scenarios are wrong.

Self-Victimization

November 29, 2017 by Alexander Gee

AREN’T WE THROUGH WITH SELF-VICTIMIZATION YET?

As I grow older…and hopefully wiser…I realize that I have fewer and fewer people in my life to blame things on. I am left to face the haunting reality that I have spent way too much time accusing other people of spoiling my success rather than celebrating and assuring my own success. Why give people that much power over our lives? What does that get us besides depressed? As responsible individuals we need to take responsibility for our own lives. What are we modeling for our children if they only see us blaming others for missed opportunities?

Self-Victimization isn’t merely being wronged; it is the reshaping of our reality and identity based upon that wrong which was perpetrated against us. When this happens, the core of our existence then becomes what we’ve endured rather than what we’ve overcome. Self-Victimization is the subtly evil attempt to redefine identity based upon circumstances rather than observing our Divine Design.

Self-Victimization leads to complacency…

Exhale

November 29, 2017 by Alexander Gee

*I was inspired to write this peace after working with a client who was so busy chasing the next great thing that she almost missed the present greatness of her life and Source. I dedicate this to all the people who are too busy to realize just how incredibly rich they truly are.

Exhale by Dr. Alex Gee

Exhale or you’ll never release what’s placed inside you! Don’t succumb to the temptation to speed up to the dizzying speed of your anxiety. S…l…o…w…D…o…w…n  the pace of your racing soul so that it can safely drink from the cool wells of reflection.

The Power and Discipline of Delayed Gratification

November 29, 2017 by Alexander Gee

Our best self is yet to be revealed.

In a time when so much gratification is immediate, it’s hard for many to believe that good comes to those who wait. Far too many of us treat the discipline of delayed gratification as though it were life’s greatest tragedy. The sad thing is that delayed gratification isn’t a “no” response…it’s simply a “not right this minute” response.

Consider the trouble that we get ourselves into when we deny our God-given ability to say “no” or to perhaps simply say “not now” to something we want or feel we deserve. When this happens we spend more than we have. We eat what is harmful or we eat amounts that are harmful. We commit ourselves to things that require superhuman strength and unlimited time constraints to complete. We add more work to our schedules and decrease exercise and rest. The sad thing isn’t merely that we want it all…that sad thing is that we want it all right now!

I don’t think that I would ever be accused of being a slacker by anyone who knows me well. I encourage dreams and hard work. It is wonderful to have great aspirations that are doable, reasonable and well planned. Just remember that for every action there must be a reaction. In other words, what will you say no to in order to offer a serious yes to a new venture or opportunity you’re faced with? [Read more…] about The Power and Discipline of Delayed Gratification

Carpe Diem (Seizing the Day)

November 29, 2017 by Alexander Gee

Carpe Diem! It’s a popular Latin phrase that literally means seize the day.

It is interesting to reflect on what you value at various stages of life. As an elementary kid I valued recess and candy. As a middle schooler I valued popularity and Clearasil (this was my generation’s version of Proactive anti-acne cream.) In high school I valued athletics, grades, part-time jobs and girls. In college I valued new networks, global thinking and my preparation for an exciting career. As a newlywed (thirty years ago!), I valued stability, good credit scores and payday.

Today, as man who is fifty-four years of age, what I endeavor to seize is much different. During my younger years I attempted to seize that which helped my success, popularity and comfort. And although I still have (or, suffer from) a healthy drive in life…what I am achieving is a means to an end rather than the desired end. For example, I still enjoy getting paid for the work I do, however, I am more concerned with how I leverage that pay to create memories via vacations with my teen daughter and/or aging mother. As I am invited all over the world to lecture, preach or consult on various humanitarian issues, what I savor is the tremendous people I meet as well as the opportunity to bring others along with me. “Unity produces an atmosphere where power and miracles can occur.” To the extent that this is true, what is your game plan for building unity into your lifestyle? And remember, unity does not simply mean those who agree with you. Unity means those, who against all odds, are willing to hold you accountable for your dreams and grow with you. – #Geeisms
